On the outskirts

The Toscolano Maderno peninsula boasts a privileged position on Lake Garda. It is like a terrace projecting into the lake, offering visitors a whole range of activities. You can choose just to relax or visit some of the many museums and places of interest in the vicinity.

Between Toscolano and Maderno lies Valle delle Cartiere. It is a valley renowned since ancient times as a paper-making area and the remains of numerous paper mills can still be seen. Guests can enjoy a relaxing walk in a delightful setting and visit the Centre of Excellence at Maina Inferiore, an ancient paper mill that has been fully renovated and shows how paper was made in the 16th century.

The Vittoriale degli Italiani is a landmark in Gardone Riviera. The famous poet Gabriele D’Annunzio once resided there and bequeathed it to the Italian people. The project was the brainchild of architect Giancarlo Maroni. Work on converting the original house commenced in 1921 and continued until after the poet’s death. It was declared a national monument in 1925 and is now an immense open-air museum.
